# Tactics character collection

48 character bases cover all 24 requested races, with one male and one female variation each. The approved Dragonkin image is the art reference. Each sheet was visually compared for proportions, detail, palette, and style; all 48 assembled knight variants were also reviewed.

Open `index.html` through the local development server or the built site. Pick a character, toggle or add attachments, and adjust position, size, rotation, and drawing order. Dragging moves the selected layer. PNG exports use a transparent 512 × 512 canvas; Save design exports editable placement data. Designs are not automatically saved, so use Save design before switching characters or closing the page.

Each `<race>/<male|female>/` directory contains separate transparent `body.png`, `outfit.png`, `hat.png`, and `sword.png` files: 192 PNG layers in total. `manifest.json` supplies initial placements and drawing sizes, which can differ from source PNG sizes. PNG crops preserve source alpha. `sheets/` retains the generated source sheets.

This is a starter wardrobe: a knight outfit, top hat, and longsword for each variation. Profession sets are described below; the full SRD weapon list is not included yet. Basic underclothes, tails, and wings remain part of the base. Separate head features are described below. Outfit sets combine tunic, armor, gloves, and boots where present. Turtlefolk outfits include a shell backing; bunnyfolk hats include matching ear details. Cross-race swaps and hats around horns may need manual placement. Hide bottom (%) can trim an outfit to expose hooves.

Art was generated using the built-in image generation tool. The shared prompt is in `generation-prompt.txt`, race briefs are in `races.json`, and the reference is `approved-dragonkin.png`. Rebuild layer crops and default placements with `node scripts/build-tactics.mjs` from the project root. Run `node scripts/render-tactics-review.mjs` for assembled review sheets.

## Profession wardrobe

The workshop now includes 48 profession sets with separate outfit, headwear, and tool layers. See [wardrobe notes](professions/README.md) and the two assembled review sheets in that folder. All sets are selectable across races with automatic fitting and manual adjustments.

## Direct editing

Click empty canvas space to hide selection handles. Click visible artwork to select it, drag to move, drag a corner to resize, or drag the round handle to rotate. Hold Shift for proportional resizing or 15-degree rotation steps. Arrow keys nudge the selected layer; Shift moves by ten pixels. Selection handles are on a separate overlay and never appear in exported PNGs.

The compact toolbar provides fit, horizontal flip, vertical flip, remove, background cycling, and reset. Drag a layer's grip to change its stacking order without changing its coordinates or selection; focused grips also support arrow keys. Layers at the top are in front.

Use the gallery tabs to browse bodies, heads, hair, horns/ears, clothing, headwear, and weapons/tools without selecting a layer first. Selecting a layer also opens its category. Thumbnails replace the matching slot, or add it if missing; Bodies starts a new character and outfit. Plus duplicates the selected accessory. Hair and horns/ears fit relative to the current head, including its size, position, rotation, and flips; Fit restores that placement. Precise position, size, angle, and crop controls live in a collapsible section.

Dedicated head-and-neck artwork and independent hair and horns/ears layers are available for 30 variants. See [head feature notes](anatomy/README.md) for coverage and rebuilding. Other species retain the adjustable straight head/torso seam. Original image files are untouched.

Version 2 saved designs retain flips, crops, transforms, and layer order. Earlier version 1 designs still load in their original layout; adjust the neck seam to split their character if desired.
